Plan Your Day on Your Family Vacation Wisely

Planning is the key to a successful and enjoyable family vacation. Once you have chosen a destination, decide what you want to achieve at that destination. You don’t have to be as regimented as your average military campaign, but a little planning in advance will help relieve stress and make your trip all the more enjoyable. Know how long you will have to devote to the activities you wish to accomplish, whether it be a full day, half day, or merely an hour. And keep in mind that weather at your destination could call for changes. Plan accordingly, having some back-up indoor activities in reserve. And allow some time to regroup, and restore your enthusiasm, especially when traveling with children.

Here's a travel tip I wish we'd have learned years ago.  When packing your suitcases, use JUMBO SIZE 2.5 GALLON HEFTY ZIPLOC BAGS to organize your clothes in the suitcase.   Makes it easy to pull out what you need each day, keep everyone's clothes separate and move clothes from one bag to another if you're over the weight limit at the airport....We've done that many times.

Here's a link to the best deals on Hefty Jumbo bags at Amazon with 2 day Prime shipping.

If Hefty bags are not your thing, check out the very popular best selling suitcase packing cubes designed to serve a similar purpose.

In this photo you see that I only get half the suitcase as I share the other half with my daughter as we pack for our 13 day European trip.

Determine your priorities, and consider planning on one major activity and one minor activity per day. Undertaking two major adventures in a single day can lead you to shortchange one or the other. Set out on your major excursion first, giving yourself enough time to enjoy yourself to the fullest. The minor activity can be scheduled for later in the day, or perhaps even cancelled or rescheduled as needed. And always be prepared to make adjustments just in case your major excursion falls through, or doesn’t live up to expectations. Plan a few additional minor activities to take up the slack.

Try not to overschedule, and leave some time for rest and recuperation. No one needs to return from a vacation in need of a vacation! But don’t plan too little, either. Leaving great open gaps in your vacation plan can lead to unexpectedly expensive fill-in activities.
